The CCPTP 2008 Mid-Winter Meeting

The CCPTP mid-winter meeting will be scheduled in Chicago at the Chicago Hilton and Towers for Thursday, March 6, 2008. Please note that the cost of our CCPTP mid-winter meeting will be $50.00 to pay for lunch at the hotel as well as the meeting space.

Please go to the ICPC website and register for pre-conference sessions 1 and 9 as a CCPTP member to be a part of our CCPTP mid-winter meeting.

Session 1 (Training implications of the internationalization movement in Counseling Psychology) runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will be co-sponsored by CCPTP and the International Section of SCP. A four member panel will present on the training implications of the current internationalization movement in the field of counseling psychology in the areas of integrating cross-national competencies and international students' training needs into the curriculum, practicum & internship training, and mentoring practices.

The four panelists are: Dr. John Romano (University of Minnesota), Dr. Puncky Heppner (University of Missouri Columbia), Dr. Li-fei Wang (National Taiwan Normal University), and Dr. Sif Einarsdóttir (University of Iceland).

The second half of this morning program will be facilitated breakout sessions where participants can ask questions, offer observations and share experiences related to the topics discussed by the panelists.

Session 9 runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and it will include lunch ($50.00). This session will include CCPTP business meetings (11:15-12 noon, 4-5 p.m.), a lunch (12 noon-1 p.m.), and a session focused on practicum training in our academic programs to best prepare students for internship and licensure/entrance to practice given recent APA initiatives and some state licensures laws (1-4 p.m.).

For the practicum training/internship and licensure preparation session in the afternoon, we will have a panel consisting of Drs. Nadya Fouad, Karen Taylor, Emil Rodolfo, and Roberta Nutt.

Following this panel presentation, we will have another breakout session to discuss these topics in small groups. We will be offering CEU’s for our morning and afternoon programs.

We do hope that all CCPTP members will attend our CCPTP mid-winter meeting! These are cutting edge issues to address in our academic training programs!

We will also have other education and training programs sprinkled throughout the International Counseling Psychology Conference.

For new training directors, we will have a new training director orientation the Wednesday evening before our mid-winter meeting. Brent Mallinckrodt has agreed to facilitate the new training director orientation (in hotel meeting room 4L from 5:00-6:30 p.m., followed by dinner together).

The APA self-study and site visitor training will be offered during ICPC on that Wednesday from 8 a.m. -5 p.m. as mentioned in earlier e-mails. I e-mailed the most recent list of CCPTP attendees to the APA accreditation office in mid-December. If you still want to register for these trainings, please contact the APA accreditation office directly.

Right now, our two CCPTP board meetings are scheduled on Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (breakfast, lunch), followed by a dinner together and on Sunday from 12 noon-3 p.m. (including lunch).

Please note that we kept our mid-winter conference fees down by offering a group lunch with beverage at the hotel (so that we can all be together for one meal). Therefore, please eat breakfast before you arrive for our meeting. You are welcome to bring your own beverages into the meeting room as no beverages will be provided in the room that day.

Thanks everyone! We are looking forward to seeing everyone in Chicago!
